Tensions between India and Pakistan have sharply escalated just hours after a newly brokered ceasefire agreement, with both nations reportedly engaging in aerial strikes across the Line of Control.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri issued a stern statement accusing Pakistan of violating the ceasefire first, stating that the Indian armed forces have been instructed to respond “adequately and appropriately.” Misri emphasized that the reported violations were a breach of the understanding reached earlier in the day between the director generals of military operations from both sides. On the other hand, Pakistan is blaming India for violating the ceasefire deal.
Meanwhile, on-the-ground reports from Srinagar in Indian-administered Kashmir reveal heightened anxiety among residents, who have reportedly seen projectiles in the sky. Though no casualties have been confirmed, it remains unclear if any of the projectiles have landed or caused damage. Videos circulating on social media, claim to show a large Pakistani drone flying over Srinagar, being intercepted by Indian air defenses.
Though it is unconfirmed and unclear who striked first, India has reportedly launched aerial strikes targeting areas in Peshawar, Pakistan as well. Videos and eyewitness accounts suggest both sides have resumed active military operations, in direct violation of the ceasefire terms announced earlier.
While both nations have blamed each other for initiating the renewed hostilities, independent verification of who first breached the agreement remains pending. The international community is likely to watch the situation closely as concerns grow over a potential broader conflict in the region.
