Apple released new Macbook Air 2018 with a retina display and Touch ID on November 7. And until now this year model is the most expensive Macbook Air since its first release. Though consumers are getting some better and updated features along with Retina display. But still The new Air is nearly the price of a Macbook Pro which is more powerful than the new Macbook Air 2018.
The Design Aesthetics of Macbook Air 2018
The design of Macbook Air was the first approach to the present PC industry design aesthetics and been an evolution in the design of ultra-book. The new 13 inch Macbook Air 2018 comes with the same wedge shape chassis that Apple designed 10 years ago. This year’s Air offers a new recycled aluminium with three different colors. But there is not much difference between the thinness of 2018 and 2017 models. The 2017 Macbook Air was only 0.68 inch in its thickest point and 0.11 inch at the front. In comparison, the new Macbook Air is 0.07 inch thinner than its predecessor but the front end is 0.5 inch thicker than 2017 model. Macbook Air 2018 model is comparatively light weight (2.75 pounds) than the previous version which was just 0.26 pounds heavier than the new Macbook Air.
The Display
The major change in the new 13.3 inch Macbook Air is the iconic retina display with a smaller bezel. With the full black retina display, it looks exotically eye soothing. The 2560-by-1600 pixel display also improves with full standard color quality like Macbook Pro. Despite being a full featured notebook the new Air has a less resolution display than the iPad Pro 2018. The new iPad Pro has 2732-by-2048-pixel liquid retina display with 264 pixels per inch (ppi).
In the new Macbook Air, USB-C power port has replaced the previous MagSafe 2 power port. Along with the charging port, the 30W USB-C Power Adapter kicked out the old 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter with cable management system from the the new Macbook Air. The new adapter is capable of more efficient and fast charging facility. All the ports including Thunderbolt ports are converted into C-ports which is a major change in the design aesthetics.
Other Features and Specifications
The latest Macbook Air comes with a new Touch ID which allows your finger prints to be the password for your machine. The battery provides mostly the similar performance as the previous model except the 13 hours iTunes movie playback. The new battery sustains 1 hour longer than the 2017 model in terms of movie playback time. Although there is a very little improvement in the design and battery performance but there is a radical improvement in the whole performance.
Eighth-generation Processor
Apple released Macbook Air for consecutive 9 years without any radical change in it’s design and features. But this time it has pushed the envelop for its processing speed which goes up to 3.6 GHz. The new Eighth-generation Intel dual-core processor replaces previous Fifth-generation processor which provides an outstanding performance.
Keyboard, Touch-Pad and Spacing
Macbook Air 2018 offers Apple’s latest third generation keyboard constructed with butterfly mechanism. As Apple describes that this is the best version of the design, with the rubber skirts under the keys. The previous keyboard used to create more sound than the present butterfly keyboard and had to press with greater force.
Replacement of the Multi-Touch track-pad is another big change in the 2018 model. The new Force Touch track-pad works very well in Macbook Pro and it works the same in the Air 2018. Apple has also extended the storage up to 1.5 TB in the new model which is similar to the Macbook Pro.
The Most Expensive Macbook Air
Macbook Air was the most affordable Apple laptop under USD $1000 till last year. But the new Macbook Air bumped up with its new price tag. Until the new release, Macbook Air 2017 price started from USD $999 for Core i5 processor with 128 GB Storage. On the other hand the new Macbook Air starts at USD $1199 with the same Core i5 processor with 128 GB SSD Storage capacity. Despite the fact that it is expensive and not affordable like the previous one but its worth buying. Because the new Macbook Air comes with some new radical changes like Retina Display and Touch ID.
