On November 30, 2024, a targeted Israeli Airstrike killed three aid workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK), an American aid organization working in Gaza. According to reports, the Israeli forces targeted the WCK vehicle in Deir Al-Balah of Gaza despite being marked with the organization’s logo, while transporting staff. Because of this attack, WCK found it difficult to operate in Gaza, forced to stop their further operation.
In the Israeli precision Airstrike, three of the members of the organization are killed while two are injured. The WCK says,
“We are heartbroken to share that a vehicle carrying World Central Kitchen colleagues was hit by an Israeli air strike in Gaza,”
It is not the first time Israel has killed aid workers from WCK, it is in fact the third time Israeli forces have killed aid workers involving WCK. The previous strikes in April and July killed eight employees.
The Israeli forces have justified this attack claiming that one of the aid workers participated on October 7. However, they have not given any evidence as always. In response to the Israeli claim, the WCK says they have no knowledge of anyone involved in the October 7 attack.
In the previous two attacks, Israel also claimed that they had intel about Hamas fighters in the vehicle. However, investigations into those attacks suggest they were deliberate, despite Israeli military assertions of errors while Israel apologized for the error in the judgment.
As the WCK stops its operation, more and more people will face dire consequences of hunger as they have already been in for more than a year. The broader humanitarian crisis will continue to escalate as Israel’s repeated strikes target aid workers and infrastructure, undermining efforts to combat starvation in the besieged territory.
However, the international community has begun to understand Israel is Above International Law, and no matter what they do, or who they kill, it will not face any consequences despite the ICC’s arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Gallant.
