Israel Killed Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh Intentionally New Documentary Reveals

A new documentary from the American startup media outlet Zeteo, “Who Killed Shireen?” uncovered damning evidence that Israeli soldier intentionally killed the Palestinian-American Christian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022. The documentary has also identified and revealed the names of the two soldiers who shot Shireen. It didn’t end there. It exposed a disturbing pattern of denial, deflection, and cover-up between Israel and the United States.    

For nearly three years, Israel has denied the responsibility. They have shifted their narratives and fabricated the facts. After they killed Shireen, Israel initially blamed Palestinian militants. However, they got caught lying as they always do and admitted that “probably” one of their soldiers mistakenly shot the journalist. Despite multiple investigations from Israel and the United States, then-Prime Minister Naftali Bennett hardly accepted that an Israeli soldier was responsible for the killing of Shireen. However, they never named the shooter and never took any action. Moreover, Israel was so rogue, it did not even cooperate with any international or U.S. investigation. But the truth always comes out, and the Israeli lie is being debunked.  

The new documentary, produced by the investigative media outlet Zeteo, unveils the shocking truth. Who Killed Shireen? Has revealed the name of the soldier—Alon Scagio——as the sniper who pulled the trigger in Jenin. Besides, the documentary also revealed that Abu Akleh was reporting for Al Jazeera in clearly marked press gear. The film clearly states that Israel knew exactly who fired the fatal shot, along with the Biden Administration. It is more distressing that the American investigator also found out that the soldier “intentionally targeted the journalist”, as an anonymous high-ranking U.S. official revealed to the Zeteo team. 

The American investigation into the killing concluded that it was intentional, but the Biden Administration buried the truth and spread the Israeli narrative. However, right after Shireen was killed, and Israel blamed a Palestinian militant, Biden himself said, “We will not tolerate killing of an American…the shooter must be prosecuted as she was an American citizen”. But when they found out it was an Israeli soldier who had intentionally shot dead the journalist, the Biden administration became silent and covered it up, as if it was ok for Israel to kill Americans. They didn’t even release the investigative report and made it classified.

According to the documentary film’s testimony, the visuals and ballistic evidence available at the time made it clear that an Israeli soldier shot the journalist despite the visible press vest and helmets. However, Israel claimed and lied about it. Besides, it is also not clear that there were no nearby militants, and the sniper had a clear line of sight. But the U.S government publicly mimicked the Israeli narrative that the killing was “unintentional”.      

Israel has always justified the killing of Palestinian journalists throughout its existence, and it was not any different this time. The same happened to Scagio, the killer. Despite being prosecuted and punished for murdering Shireen, he was promoted to a captain and moved to another unit. As the documentary reveals, he was killed in action in Jenin in June 2024. Ironically, he was killed where he had shot the unarmed journalist intentionally.       

It is not that this is the first time Israel is being exposed for its lies and crimes, but this new revelation casts a long shadow over Israeli impunity once again. Moreover, it also raises concerns about the U.S government of its complicity. With this documentary film, it is clear that Israel lies to cover up its crimes while the U.S routinely enables those lies through silence and its diplomatic fiction.
